About

Micah Botts

I care about making work people can actually use.

I'm Micah Botts, a graphic designer based in St. Louis. I make logos, posters, brand systems, and the kind of visual stuff small businesses need when they want to look more serious without feeling fake.

I care about clear ideas, strong type, and design that has a real reason behind it. My Zoo internship taught me how much design has to work in public, not just on a screen.

No Strangers is a personal project, but it says a lot about how I think. Make it welcoming, make it direct, make it something people remember. I'm currently taking clients and I'm easy to reach.

Art Direction

In the Midst
of the Broken

In the Midst of the Broken aims to communicate that even through the brokenness and sadness in the world, we can add life and joy. The colorful sculptures create a strong contrast against the overgrown, deteriorating building, with a visual tension. The main mask/helmet showcases our minds moving through pain and suffering while also looking onward with hope and optimism. Standing amongst the graffiti and markings of others shows how what we make is a beautiful piece of the broader community.

Vector Bird
Series

I chose three vector birds: an American Goldfinch, a Cardinal, and a Blue Jay, which I built from simple shapes starting with the same base circle. The constraint pushed the designs to stay consistent, and they ended up feeling like a really natural set. Made in Illustrator.

Digital Collage

Shaq
Attack

Shaq Attack is my response to a project in the class Computer Art Studio where the task was to create a collage in Photoshop of an individual who has made change in the world. I chose Shaquille O'Neal because of his dominance in the NBA and how he has made a huge impact on the world through his accomplishments and fame. I ended up making three collages where I attempted to showcase Shaq's size and strength. The piece in the middle is a visual pun on his physical dominance in the paint, taken literally.

Brand Identity

No
Strangers

No Strangers is a St. Louis based movement built around one idea: talk to people. I wanted the brand to feel confrontational but warm, direct without being cold. Hot pink, a calligraphic wordmark, and bold editorial layouts that actually stop the scroll.

Logo Design

Saola Emblem

Saola Emblem is a study in Graphic Design I of Lance Wyman's emblem system for the Smithsonian National Zoo, extended with a mark of my own. I chose the Saola, one of the rarest mammals on earth, and worked to simplify its form into something that fits in/belongs in Wyman's system (pictured above).
